LOL, you already bought the PC, so you have the Hardware. Don't you think you are abit late to ask the latest hardware question ?

Anyway, can you post the PC specs and i'll let you know which software you need :)

If you are using the PC for business like installing third party software
You need XP. But if you are using it for gaming it is Vista. All new games
are compatible with Windows Vista. As for latest software I suggest Windows Media Player 11. Microsoft Office 2007. Windows messenger.
Any anti virus like Kaspersky Internet security 2009. Adobe Reader 9.
Web Browser for example:Mozilla Fire fox or Netscape Navigator.
Nero 9 for burning CD's. Then your computer will have been perfect for a beginner using computers.

What codec pack shouydl i get... I can not seam to ge tthe ac3filter to work and eve nthough i have xvid running I can not open XviD files in VirtuaDub or avidMUX....

What codec packs shoudl i get if any?
